The Oral Power of Green Tea

oral benefits of green teaAdd healthy gums and teeth to the list of benefits of drinking green tea.

Research published in Preventive Medicine shows that drinking at least one cup of green tea a day increases the odds of KEEPING your teeth as you get older.

The power in green tea comes from anti-microbrial molecules called catechins which serve to protect teeth and gums by killing bacteria that promotes decay. The same molecules can be found in oolong tea, although in lesser amounts.

There is one hitch, though. Researchers found that tea sweeteners, like sugar, may negate green tea's powerful benefit.

The same is true for coffee. While a cup of joe will not protect teeth like green tea will, researchers found that drinking sweet coffee was actually deleterious. Meaning: Sweet coffee may actually make you lose teeth.

Maintaining healthy teeth and gums is a crucial part of maintaining a healthy body. That is why it is so important to find simple ways to boost oral health – such as regularly drinking green tea.
