When Teeth Whitening Becomes an Addiction

Teeth WhiteningTeeth whitening treatments are now the top requested cosmetic dental procedures in the U.S.. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, bleaching has increased more than 300% since 1996!

Americans sure love their white smiles, but are some people getting carried away?

While most would stop short of calling it a teeth whitening addiction, some people overdo it in the quest for the perfect pearly-white smile – just like the actors and actresses we see on TV.

As a leading cosmetic dentist in Pasadena, I see that some people have a tendency to over-use teeth whitening products and treatments. Their teeth almost have a “glow in the dark” effect which looks un-natural.

So, how can you tell if you're going over-board with your teeth whitening regime?

Tell tale signs include:

  • Excessive sensitivity of the teeth, especially to cold food and drinks .
  • Redness, irritation and bleeding in the gums.
  • Teeth may start to appear translucent or blotchy.

When it comes to getting your teeth whiter, your safest, most-effective bet is to get profes

sional whitening treatments right here in my office.  Those over-the-counter products can become a real hazard if they're over-used. In fact, if you've had the peroxide from those whitening strips on too long, you can get a throbbing pain in your tooth. It goes away, but your teeth hurt for a while afterwards. Not fun.

Don't ruin your teeth from too much whitening. Contact my office and have it done professionally. In my opinion, it's the only way to go.
