U.S. News & Report says that being a dentist is again the best career in the U.S., according to its list of the 100 Best Jobs of 2017.
Being a dentist was the second-best job in 2016 AND 2015 as well! This year, orthodontist came in fifth, after leading the rankings in 2016, and dental hygienist came in at No. 32.
The number of jobs for dentists will increase by 18%, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics figures cited by U.S. News. This adds up to more than 23,000 new employment openings in the industry!
What’s the criteria for the magazine’s best jobs? Here’s what they looked at:
- Salary
- Offer a challenge
- Not too stressful
- Room to advancement
- Provides a satisfying work-life balance
After dentist, the other jobs in the top five were nurse practitioner, physician assistant, statistician, and orthodontist.
