Dental implants are the modern standard for treating missing teeth. They are a permanent solution that feel and look like natural teeth.
Statistics show nearly 70% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth. And, by age 74, 26% of adults have lost all of their teeth.
If you wonder whether or not you would be a candidate for dental implants, our team at THE SCIENCE OF SMILES will thoroughly examine your mouth, teeth, and bone structure to help ensure success before the procedure begins. We have equipped our practice with the latest technology in implant placement, making the process extremely comfortable and minimally invasive.
How the Dental Implant Procedure Works
The dental implant procedure begins with a consultation to assess and discuss treatment options. 3D x-rays follow with Dr. Stender using them to plan the procedure with limited amount of cutting or suturing.
Dental implants essentially serve as prosthetic roots that then support the overlying crown. Unlike removable dentures, dental implants never slip, make embarrassing noises, and never decay like real teeth. They can be used in combination with dentures or fixed bridges, creating a much more affordable solution over individual tooth implants for someone who needs multiple teeth replacements.
In some cases, Dr. Stender can place the implant and a temporary tooth in just a single visit. Once the implant has healed (usually in about three months), he will place the permanent crown.
Dentures vs Implants
Dentures are known to accelerate bone loss. Patients may also experience up to a 90% reduction in chewing capacity wearing full dentures, causing pain every time they chew.
Dental implants are the best option for tooth replacement because they fuse into the jaw bone, actually preventing bone loss and gum problems. Implants allow patients to talk, chew, and exert pressure just like natural teeth.
